2,745 miles on a bike to promote awareness and care for people with Parkinson’s disease

Those fighting Parkinson’s disease face a long and tough road. Empower Parkinson, Inc. is a non-profit Parkinson’s wellness center. Our motto is “We won’t let anyone fight alone.”

Tom Lane’s goal to ride 2,800 miles down the Continental Divide raising funds for Empower Parkinson, Inc. exemplifies the determination, dedication and grit that those fighting against Parkinson’s disease require every day.

His resolve, like ours, will not falter. Beginning his journey in Banff, Canada, Tom Lane will have ridden nearly 2,800 miles to the Mexico border in the Tour Divide race.

Why? To remind us that despite physical challenges and twists and turns in the road, together we can make a difference and provide others with hope.

Empower Parkinson, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-for profit organization.

The Campaign

Parkinson’s Disease is a long-term degenerative disorder of the central nervous system. Nearly 90,000 people are diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in the U.S. each year.

This summer, Tom will cross the Rocky Mountains, braving the elements and himself on behalf of Empower Parkinson, Inc. Tom is doing the hard part, “bikepacking” through mountains! Your financial support for Empower Parkinson’s helps provide the encouragement and optimism Tom will need as he fights the hills and valleys along his journey.

All donations are fully tax-deductible and will support Empower Parkinson’s programs focused on improving the lives of those living with Parkinson’s disease.

About The Tour Divide

The Tour Divide is an ultra-endurance “bikepacking” race extending from the Mexican border to Banff, Canada. Participants carry all of their gear and supplies with them. The challenging terrain makes this race a test of fortitude in the best of conditions. But, as the New York Times noted, extreme weather and forest fires have made it even more difficult and dangerous in recent years.

Despite the difficulty of the race, the Tour Divide has gained a devoted following among endurance cyclists and is considered one of the sport’s premier events. The race typically takes between 2-4 weeks to complete, with riders covering up to 200 miles per day.

Racers may start at either end of the course and at any time during the summer.  This year, Tom will start on the 2nd Friday in June in Banff with most other racers heading Southbound, called the Grand Depart. You can follow Tom’s progress and all the other racers by clicking on the Track Racers button below.  Follow Tom on Instagram @tlane3of6.

Tom has “joined the fight against Parkinson’s disease” in support of his brother-in-law, Stan Grzymala, who is a member of Empower Parkinson, Inc.
