Parkinson’s Disease and Sleep: Common Problems & Helpful Tips

  • Up to 80% of people with Parkinson’s disease develop
    insomnia during the course of the disease
  • The most common problem is not falling asleep — it is
    waking up repeatedly during the night
  • Common reasons patients wake up at night and helpful
    strategies for patients
  • Excessive daytime sleepiness is also common in Parkinson’s
    disease
  • Good sleep can improve daytime movement, mood,
    memory, fatigue, and overall quality of life
